Cookridge beat Otley in Eagle Ryder Cup

In a really tight finish Cookridge brought home the trophy in the first Eagle Ryder Cup event at Otley Golf Club.

This is a challenge match between the youngsters at both clubs with handicaps between 28 and 54. It is played in singles and fourballs over 9 holes with 15 players per side.

Harry Green led Cookridge off to a win in the first match but Otley soon hit back. Credit must particularly be given to George Greenbank and James Trant who played on their own against two opponents following two late Cookridge withdrawals.

9 year old George despite being a lot younger than his two opponents took them to the last hole. 11 year old James Trant, however, beat his two opponents 4&2 in a sensational display of quality golf.

It was all down to the final match and the search parties were sent to find Charlie Smith and Ross Jaques and their opponents. With the score at 41/2 – 31/2 it was all to play for on the final hole and Charlie Smith calmly holed the winning putt to win the match and bring the trophy to Cookridge with a final score line of 51/2 – 31/2.

Thanks to Otley Golf Club who put on a great event and we are already looking forward to hosting the match next year.
