YUGC Team Champions
Following the recent disappointment of finishing 2nd in successive events the Scratch Team travelled to Hallamshire GC in Sheffield last Wednesday to compete in the YUGC Team Championship.
Having finished runners up in the 2nd division Team Championship to qualify for the event, the boys set out their stall early on by posting an impressive 221 total to lead at the halfway stage. In blustery conditions the course played extremely tough with many notable names recording high scores. Nevertheless after round 1 Cookridge led by 3 strokes from local rivals Wike Ridge whom had pipped us to the LDUGC Team Championship only a week earlier.
Another solid performance from the boys in round 2 with a score of 222 kept us at the top of the leaderboard and the long waiting game to see how others fared began. Pike Hills returned a commendable 2nd round total of 220, 7 shots better than their morning round, thankfully we had 6 to play with so retained top spot by 4 strokes, With Wike Ridge, Fulford and Rotherham left on the course things were getting tighter and as the teams returned our dreams of winning were slowly becoming a reality.
Fulford faltered returning a total of 457 whilst Wike Ridge and Rotherham matched each other returning 450, which left us4 clear at the top and crowned Yorkshire Champions.
Massive congratulations from all at Cookridge Hall to Adam Frontal, Tom Madden and Tom Broxup who having won the individual prize last week matched his accoldae by taking the lowest indivdual prize again with a fantastic 142 total.
The boys now travel to Trentham GC on September 20-21 to compete in the English Club Champion of Champions event.
