New Golf Development Programme Launched
Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley is launching a new Golf Programme available to Post-Sixteen students from September 2014 in conjunction with the award-winning Cookridge Hall Golf Club. Students on the programme will study Golf, with a view to a potential career in the sport, alongside their A Level or BTEC academic studies.
Students from the Leeds and the Yorkshire region, who are currently in Year 11, and their parents, are invited to an Open Evening at Cookridge Hall, where they will meet key professionals from both Prince Henry’s and Cookridge Hall. The Open Evening is on Tuesday 11 March at 7.30pm, in the Conference Suite at Cookridge Hall Health and Fitness Club.
The Deputy Headteacher at Prince Henry’s Grammar School Chris Rowbottom is leading the programme for the school. He said “This programme will allow students to develop their golfing potential alongside their academic skills, while allowing them a more balanced life. We have a very successful elite Rugby Development Programme at Prince Henry’s and our intention is that this programme will allow young people to develop in the same way.”
Jonathan Pearson, Head of Junior Development at Cookridge Hall Golf Club, who will head the Golf side of the programme said “We believe this programme will be unique in Yorkshire, allowing young players with real potential the opportunity to develop their skills. For this reason, while we expect players who apply to join the programme to be serious golfers with real commitment, we are not currently limiting the golfing handicap of potential students.”
Prince Henry’s Grammar School is a thriving and successful ComprehensiveSchool, with results to match. The Sixth Form is both inclusive and challenging, helping students to achieve their best in every direction. Cookridge Hall already has a strong reputation for developing Junior Golfers, is recognised as an official starter centre by the golf foundation and became the first club to be awarded and retain the Club Mark and Golf Mark awards. Their continued work and forward thinking approach has resulted in them receiving the Golf Mark High Achiever award.
