Jamie Claims Prestigious Title
In excess of 30 members competed last Thursday evening all vying to stake claim on the Prestigious title of Cookridge Hall’s Biggest Hitter.
Launched last year this novel idea brought together members of the club who claim to be the longest hitters in the club, although not the straightest it proved.
Five categories were put together comprising of Juniors, Ladies, Over 50’s, Open Age and Professionals. Given the number of entries players were allowed only two attempts to record their biggest hit so to speak, with Head Professional Mark Pinkett and General Manager Gary Day laying down the rule that the ball MUST hit the fairway on first bounce to qualify.
With music pumping out and a mass of members gathered the scene and atmosphere was set.
Last year saw Junior member Oliver Proctor take the title with an immense drive over well over 300 yards in tough blustery conditions. Oliver alongside his Junior counterparts, Bradley Hudson and Jamie Lawrence fought out a grueling battle to take the junior section with Jamie Lawrence coming out on top.
The Ladies were extremely well represented with 9 contestants, and what a show they delivered. Marching out proudly to Cyndi Laupers ‘Girls just wanna have fun’ they all executed great shots leaving Rebbeca Young on top with a terrifc 224 yards.
The Over 50’s and Open Age saw debutante John Weir and David Porter take the honours with Liam ‘O’Neil claiming the Professional Title.
And so to crown the 2013 winner the longest drive took it, that being Junior Jamie Lawrence with a collossal 364 yards keeping the trophy firmly within the junior section.
Invites have been sent to other LDUGC member golf clubs for them to all host their own Biggest Hitter event with a view to getting all winners together to have a Grand Finale and determine the Biggest Hitter in Leeds.
