High Achievers Again
At the recent 3 year assessment Cookridge Hall Golf Club was again awarded GolfMark High Achiever status by England Golf.
Cookridge Hall was the first golf club in Yorkshire to be awarded the GolfMark in 2007 and since then has been awarded the higher level High Achiever Award in 2010 and 2013.
The award covers all aspects of adult and particularly junior golf development and Cookridge Hall was particularly commended on the way juniors and adults were welcomed to the Club. As there is no age limit for membership youngsters can join the Academy from the age of 5 and can progress with regular coaching to the point where they have the skills to fully access the golf course irrespective of age.
The issue of equality was also highlighted by England Golf. As there are no restrictions on juniors using the course or any areas of the Clubhouse juniors feel part of the Club and this is underlined by the fact that all men, women and juniors are able to play in club competitions at all times of the day or week as there are no restrictions on any members using the course at any time.
Providing coaching for non-members was also highlighted as a strength of the Club. Many affordable coaching sessions are provided for adults in the Academy particularly for women who are generally under-represented in golf club membership.
Junior Coaching was seen as a major strength of the Club with over 2,000 children in local schools given free golf lessons in the last year. Many of these attended follow up sessions at the Golf Club and have joined the Academy.
Ray Agar, Junior Organiser at Cookridge Hall, was delighted at the award. ‘This award is a credit to the team of people at Cookridge Hall who ensure that young people have a pathway to enjoyment and success. By providing a welcoming and secure environment for juniors Cookridge Hall provides an environment in which they can successfully develop as golfers and young people.’
