8th Best Club in England

8th Best Club in England

Tom Broxup, Tom Madden and Adam Frontal did Cookridge Hall proud this weekend as they finished 8th in the English Champion Club Competition.

As a club which was only formed 17 years ago, to now become the 8th best club in England shows the progress which has been made particularly since Cookridge Hall Golf Club Ltd, under the expert guidance of Adam Frontal, has taken over the ownership of the Club.

In the first round on Saturday the weather was damp and there was standing water in some places. Playing with Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club gave us an idea of the quality of the opposition, as they breezed into a 10 shot lead after day one, all shooting 2 under.

Our Lads hit it solid but the putts wouldn’t drop and they all finished on 75 on day one for 225 and were very disappointed until they realised that they were only 4 shots off second place.

The weather on day two was glorious but a breeze got up just as we teed off at 12 noon, making it trickier than on Saturday. Tom, Tom and Adam all upped their game and we zoomed up the leader board to stand 4th after 9 holes in the second round. Unfortunately a few shots went on the more difficult back nine but a 5 shot improvement in trickier conditions gave us a total of 220 was a credit to all the lads.

Particular praise should be given to Tom Broxup who flew back from Florida to compete for the team in this competition and duly shot 71 in the second round. Thanks, also, for all members who contributed to the whip round which paid for Tom to come back.

Great credit should also go to Mano Singh who caddied for Tom Broxup despite getting no sleep after sharing a room with Ray Agar and listening to his whale impressions all night.

Great weekend, an excellent finish for Cookridge Hall Golf Club, and something which again brings us attention on the National stage.

A great credit to all involved.
